STREET ACTION YOU GOT STOPPED IN KOTOR ON APRIL 25

Initiative of young people with disabilities Boke (I MI Boke) will on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 starting at 10:00 a.m. >, and on the occasion of marking the Traffic Injury Prevention Week, organize the Street Action “StaO-SI in Kotor!”. At the street action, representatives of I MI Boka together with volunteers of the Kotor Gymnasium and officers of the Municipal Police, the Kotor Security Department and the Municipality of Kotor will hand out leaflets about respect for rights person with disabilities (PWD) to free movement.

600 flyers were made, which will be distributed to different road users (motor vehicle drivers, pedestrians, etc.), at the busiest locations in Kotor (Wooden Gate Gurdić, Golden Gate Riva and the Silver Door of Tabačina). The leaflets contain examples of discrimination and violations of the rights of PWDs to free movement, as well as prescribed rights and obligations of PWDs in traffic, regulated by the Law on Road Traffic Safety and the Law on Road Transport .

Realization of the right to free movement and equal participation in traffic for PWDs from Boka are at a significantly worse level , even compared to some less developed municipalities in Montenegro. One of the reasons is the absence of educational activities that would affect the level of knowledge and awareness of the public about the importance of conscientious treatment of PWDs in traffic. Due to lack of information and lack of educational material, road users in coastal municipalities often unknowingly violate traffic rules, thus violating the rights of PWDs to free movement.

We remind you that recognizing this problem, WE BOKE 2. September 2022 organized the first street action “Get out of my way!” We continue the distribution of educational material and raising the level of information of the citizens of Boka about the rights and needs of PWDs in traffic with the Street Action “StAO-SI in Kotor!”. This activity is part of the project “StaO-SI in Boka”, which is financed by the Municipality of Kotor and the Ministry of Capital Investments.
